A User's Guide for Planet Earth provides students with an exploration of the fundamental components of Earth's environmental systems, their interactions, and the way society affects and is affected by alterations in climate, ecosystems, hydrology, and various additional factors. Concise and targeted, the text distills essential environmental science concepts into an easy-to-understand and highly digestible textbook. The book begins by exploring several key background issues that lay the foundation for understanding the processes and drivers that control the behavior of the environment. It then delves into the main environmental systems of ecosystems, biogeochemical cycles, water, agriculture, oceans, human health, energy, and climate, culminating in a discussion of the Earth system. Students develop a fundamental understanding of how environmental processes are influenced by and can influence humans and broader society. Journal articles are referenced at the end of each chapter to encourage further reading and research. A User's Guide for Planet Earth is written for introductory environmental science courses. The clear, concise style of the text helps students grasp critical concepts without any prerequisite requirements. Dork Sahagian is an internationally recognized Earth and environmental scientist and shared Nobel Peace Prize winner. He earned his Ph.D. in geophysics from the University of Chicago and M.S. in geosciences at Rutgers, after earning his B.S. in physics at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Dr. Sahagian served as executive director of The Global Analysis, Integration, and Modeling Task Force for the International Geosphere Biosphere Program at the Institute for the Study of Earth, Oceans, and Space at the University of New Hampshire before moving to Lehigh University to direct the Environmental Initiative, as well as develop and teach the introductory course in environmental science. Professor Sahagian's areas of research include paleoclimatology, volcanology, global change, stratigraphy, geodynamics and tectonics, hydrology, sea level changes, and the myriad ways in which society interacts with the natural environment. Part of his research led him to coauthor the pivotal reports of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which was jointly awarded the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize with former vice president Al Gore.

This book will transform the way you view yourself and live your life 'Lifenotes' is a Metaphysical exploration of the human condition on planet Earth, and as such is much more than just another discussion about creative visualization. You'll be delighted and surprised to discover the deep and intriguing twists presented by the author, as step by step, arguments and techniques provide ways of looking at Life's numerous challenges through entirely different eyes. After reading this book, your perception of what a human life is all about will be altered forever in many constructive ways. In turn, such fundamental changes to your world-view can become the beginning of an entirely new and exciting chapter of your Life Journey. Reading 'Lifenotes', you'll find yourself reconsidering various things you may have believed about yourself and life, such as reincarnation being a simultaneous rather than sequential process; that creative visualization is ultimately a journey into spirituality - not just materiality; that we are Co-creators - not the Creator; that creative visualization certainly works, but requires both understanding and skill... and much more. Here is a book for the novice within the Metaphysical arena of thinking, as well as for those who have already done much research and practice in this field. Both kinds of readers will find much to delight, challenge and augment their ability to live the human experience from a greatly enhanced point of empowerment.

Michael Swanson’s online discussions with literally thousands of NexStar owners made it clear that there was a desperate need for a book such as this – one that provides a complete, detailed guide to buying, using and maintaining NexStar telescopes. Although this book is highly comprehensive, it is suitable for beginners – there is a chapter on "Astronomy Basics" – and experts alike. Celestron’s NexStar telescopes were introduced in 1999, beginning with their first computer controlled "go to" model, a 5-inch. More models appeared in quick succession, and Celestron’s new range made it one of the two dominant manufacturers of affordable "go to" telescopes.

Climate scientists have clarified the main causes of climate change, and the tight timescale within which humans must change behaviour, and implement effective solutions, wherever they are needed across the world. This book uncovers many of the powerful actions and uses them effectively to achieve sustainable human life, of improved quality, in a way that is affordable out of earned income for all humans, wherever they live. The ultimate solution to climate change lies not just in doing and consuming less but does instead entirely revolve around our ability to "out innovate" the problem. John F. Coplin, CBE, FREng, FCGI, has had a long and distinguished career in engineering and has operated and advised at all levels from heads of state, company chairs, engineering directors, government advisory boards, and on the shop floor. He is perfectly placed to take a wide-ranging approach, applying modern design and innovative engineering at a systemic level in order to provide novel approaches that will have far-reaching impact on reversing humankind’s impact on this planet. His projections and solutions are based on facts, reasonable calculations, and science learnt from nature. Unafraid to challenge current thinking, John looks at solutions across multiple sectors, including aviation, cars and domestic local transport, clean and renewable energy, food and agriculture, and housing and communities, and describes the particular potential of hydrogen as fuel. The book is written in a language for all. It is small enough to be used is a practical guide to where some of the most useful improvements are to be found and as a way to start important conversations.

"Live life slowly. That will make it last longer."Of all the tips about living a good life offered by author Dick Sonnichsen in Adventures in Good Living, that may be what our world needs to hear most in these crazy times. In his eighth decade and fifth book of social commentary, Sonnichsen makes an inclusive and incisive assessment of the state of the planet - the United States in particular - and presents a broad array of ideas to help make life more meaningful. On the angsty side of life, Sonnichsen addresses global warming, partisan pettiness and erroneous ideologies in modern politics, poverty, income inequality and accumulation of wealth by the few, race relations, the COVID-19 pandemic andthe rabbit hole of the world wide web, a technology that should unite us but often serves to isolate us further from our fellow humans and the natural world. He urges individuals to take immediate action to begin solving these concerns in the greater world as well as their personal lives. On the lighter side, he also discusses a diverse range of comforts, from food to drink to sex to the joy of hiking and the blessings of relationship with friends, family and spouse. It's not all bad news, after all.He returns also to a subject addressed in previous books (a list of his others is found inside), the efficacy (or lack thereof) of organized religion. Evolution, he believes, offers a much more believable and provable version of how we and all of our fellow creatures (including all those bugs!) came to be.Sonnichsen's sources for Adventures in Good Living range from the ancient Greeks through Darwin and Thoreau to Rachel Carson and A.C. Grayling. The bottom line of his shared thoughts is that each individual has the capacity to live a good life, but it is each individual's responsibility to take action to achieve it.Don't let your life happen by accident. In a world full of problems and the worries that accompany them, there is much to be learned here.

Science and belief are both very important for us in our 21st century society, so is it really necessary to choose between them? The view that science and belief are in conflict is a major stumbling block for many students today, with further confusion fuelled by the ongoing debate in the press and media. Adding clarity to the situation, Michael Poole explores the interaction between science and religious belief, facing dilemmas and finding unexpected solutions. A substantially rewritten and updated account of a best selling book, the User's Guide to Science and Belief is a clear and concise introduction to the relationship between science and faith.
