BLACK LIONS, LOVE AND WAR A HISTORICAL DRAMA ON THE BRITISH--ASHANTI WARS. This work of well over a decade, is dedicated to Esi Ayensu of Cape Coast, and to the late Clive Compton, Barrister-At-Law and the late MaryAnn Compton, my loving parents who saw to it that I went to school, learned good manners and be polite, and also strong, for you may suffer long for what you may want. Everyone comes under my microscopic pen and my impeccable candor in this scholarly historical drama of love and war. And as an American I look out for the interest of the entire vast region, from as far down to Brazil Amazon, to U.S.A, Canada, Carribean Island, hoping Americans will read and enjoy my work. But this is too narrow. From my studies in Literature at U.C.L.A. where I earned a B.A. in Literature, on to my M.A. in Education at Georgia State University and my subsequent admission in the Doctoral program, I was taught NOT to see the tree but the entire forest. So now I hope that the entire World will read and enjoy my book and gain from it. It is sheer fun for me to read, create, write, and bring out my artistry, remembering always that this is what distinguishes me from the goat, the cow, the donkey and makes me human. Originate and be Scholarly and remember too that there is nothing as fiction, for the writer draws from life itself, the sine qua non of the pen. I LIVE FOR ART. MELVIN F. COMPTON [email protected]
This is a story of Sean Miller. He’s a lawyer, a club owner, and a man that will have your panties diving for cover with an eyebrow quirk and will have even the strongest woman dropping to their knees in submission with his piercing stare. Then there is Samantha Richards. She’s a female cop whose tough, seemingly impenetrable shell is strong enough to resist everyone except the one man it was build up to protect her against, her college sweetheart ex, Sean. What happens when their lives collide once after years of not seeing each other and the universe--and their friends--seem determined to push them together? Can Sean prove to Sam that he’s the only man she’ll ever need, and will Sam let her guard down and finally trust her heart after years of regret? **First published as Blissful Surrender**

Milner’s great study, first published in 1950, discusses the nature of creativity and those forces which prevent its expression. In focusing on her own beginner’s efforts to draw and paint, she analyses not the mysterious and elusive ability of the genius but – as the title suggests – the all too common and distressing situation of ‘not being able’ to create. With a new introduction by Janet Sayers, this edition of On Not Being Able to Paint brings the text to the present generation of readers in the fields of psychoanalysis, education and all those, specialist and general audiences alike, with an interest or involvement in the creative process and those impulses impeding it in many fields.

What is the Supermind? Supermind is the highest level of mind, closest to the Creator. Sri Aurobindo has spoken of the Supermind as God's vast realm. The Supermind is a highly elevated plane of mind and personality, at once within us and around us. It is the locale of goodness and altruism. It is the storehouse of the vast powers of Nature that we contain. It is our potential. The Supermind is the location of origin, where creation is created and thoughts are thought. Thus, the Supermind is a reflection of the God-Mind. We can achieve this through aspiration, training and exercise in the control of mind. We accomplish this when we teach the personality to surrender to a higher authority, to lay aside its ego and to open to the Divine message. When this is realized, we see more and more of the Higher World(s). We learn what it is to live in these regions. Some of this information is now becoming available to our culture as we learn more about past lives, out-of-body experiences and near-death happenings. These experiences are accompanied by feelings of awe, bliss, beneficence, all of which describe the ambience of the Higher Range, are and what we have learned, we let others stand on our shoulders making their journey easier, their height higher, and their vision wider. We transmit; we radiate our experience.

What happens to “local” sound when globalization exposes musicians and audiences to cultural influences from around the world? Jeremy Wallach explores this question as it plays out in the eclectic, evolving world of Indonesian music after the fall of the repressive Soeharto regime. Against the backdrop of Indonesia’s chaotic and momentous transition to democracy, Wallach takes us to recording studios, music stores, concert venues, university campuses, video shoots, and urban neighborhoods. Integrating ground-level ethnographic research with insights drawn from contemporary cultural theory, he shows that access to globally circulating music and technologies has neither extinguished nor homogenized local music-making in Indonesia. Instead, it has provided young Indonesians with creative possibilities for exploring their identity in a diverse nation undergoing dramatic changes in an increasingly interconnected world. Ultimately, he finds, the unofficial, multicultural nationalism of Indonesian popular music provides a viable alternative to the religious, ethnic, regional, and class-based extremism that continues to threaten unity and democracy in that country.
