Modern Bible translations are at a crossroads as multiple translation philosophies argue that Bible translations ought to be done a certain way. So who’s right? And what has been the historic view of English Bible translators? Leland Ryken, an expert on the literature of the Bible, brings clarity to questions of how modern Bible translations should be viewed in their historical context. He begins by tracing the history of English Bible translation from William Tyndale to the King James Bible, outlining important distinctions. In the view of these historic translators, there is a right way and a wrong way to translate the Bible. Ryken concludes that essentially literal Bible translations best adhere to the legacy of classic English Bible translation. He contends that the English Standard Version is a true heir of this classical stream and concludes with an argument on why the ESV can serve as the translation of choice for Christians in all walks of life. This book will be a great resource for Christians who have questions about why we have different Bible translations and how to choose between them.

Longlisted for the FT & McKinsey Business Book of the Year Award 2017 Finance is shrouded in mystery for outsiders, while many insiders are uneasy with the disrepute of their profession. How can finance become more accessible and also recover its nobility? Harvard Business School professor Mihir Desai takes up the cause of restoring humanity to finance. With deft wit, he draws upon a rich knowledge of literature, film, history, and philosophy to explain finance's inner workings. Through this creative approach, he shows that outsiders can easily access the underlying ideas and insiders can reacquaint themselves with the core values of their profession. This combination of finance and the humanities creates unusual and illuminating pairings: Jane Austen and Anthony Trollope are guides to risk management; Jeff Koons becomes an advocate of leverage; and Mel Brooks' The Producers teaches us about fiduciary responsibility. In Desai's vision, the principles of finance also provide answers to critical questions in our lives: bankruptcy teaches us how to react to failure, the lessons of mergers apply to marriages, and the Capital Asset Pricing Model demonstrates the true value of relationships. The Wisdom of Finance is a wholly unique book, offering an enlivening new perspective on one of the world's most complex and misunderstood professions.

This volume provides an interpretative key to JonathanEdwards's theology developed from within his own doctrinal constructs. Strobeloffers a dogmatic exposition of Edwards's theology by unveiling the trinitarianarchitecture of his thought. Building upon this analysis, Strobel applies hisconstruct to reinterpret three key areas of redemption debated widely in thesecondary literature: spiritual knowledge, regeneration, and religiousaffection. In order to achieve this purpose, Strobel's approach istheological rather than philosophical, employing Edwards's self-confession as aReformed theologian to guide his analysis. In advancing a theological reading of Edwards, Strobel focuses on the systematic nature of Edward's theology, ordering it according to his doctrinal affirmations. This necessitates, as manyEdwards scholars now affirm, a primary focus on Edwards's trinitarian theology, where the Trinity serves as the keyontological principle which orders the whole of his doctrinal construction. Bygrounding the interpretive key in Edwards's understanding of the Trinity,Strobel's idiosyncratic exposition of his doctrine of the Trinity serves torecast Edwards's theology in a new light.
