Patternmaking for Underwear Design 2nd Edition is a comprehensive patternmaking guide suitable for students, teachers and the industry. Step-by-step instruction is matched with superb illustrations, and all measurements are provided in both metric and Imperial scales. This book introduces common bra patternmaking methods widely used in the industry and offers the authors own innovative bra patternmaking method entitled Shin's method. This new method includes two intermediate blocks developed using the flat patternmaking concept. Shin's method enables novice patternmakers to create various bra designs from scratch with commercial fit quality. Patternmaking for Underwear Design 2nd edition elaborates the direct bra drafting further, thus the readers whose bra size is not 34B (75B) could draft their own bra according to their body measurements. Bra grading method is also added to the 2nd edition to enable the readers to grade the bra from 34B.

DHM and Posturography explores the body of knowledge and state-of-the-art in digital human modeling, along with its application in ergonomics and posturography. The book provides an industry first introductory and practitioner focused overview of human simulation tools, with detailed chapters describing elements of posture, postural interactions, and fields of application. Thus, DHM tools and a specific scientific/practical problem – the study of posture – are linked in a coherent framework. In addition, sections show how DHM interfaces with the most common physical devices for posture analysis. Case studies provide the applied knowledge necessary for practitioners to make informed decisions. Digital Human Modelling is the science of representing humans with their physical properties, characteristics and behaviors in computerized, virtual models. These models can be used standalone, or integrated with other computerized object design systems, to design or study designs, workplaces or products in their relationship with humans. Presents an introductory, up-to-date overview and introduction to all industrially relevant DHM systems that will enable users on trialing, procurement decisions and initial applications Includes user-level examples and case studies of DHM application in various industrial fields Provides a structured and posturography focused compendium that is easy to access, read and understand

This quintessential guide to patternmaking offers comprehensive coverage, clear illustrations and easy-to-follow instructions, providing users with all the relevant information necessary to create design patterns with accuracy regardless of their complexity. Covers the three steps in the development of design patterns—dart manipulation, added fullness, and contouring—with a central theme that all designs are based on one, or more of these three major patternmaking and design principles. Includes a fashion sketch for each project with an analysis of the design, and focuses on pattern plot and manipulation for developing the patterns. Illustrates several methods for knock-offs, and dedicates new sections on fitting corrections for the basic pattern set and the four pant foundation; menswear; patternmaking for bias-cut garments; revised drafting instructions and standard measurement charts; how to modify the bodice to fit the different sizes of bust cups; constructed support for strapless designs, and more. Presents additional and more challenging design projects for the advanced reader. For dressmakers, home sewers, manufacturing companies, and professionals in fashion design and fashion merchandising.

D_Tex is proposed as a hub around which it is possible to look at textiles in their different forms, in order to better understand, study, adapt and project them for the future. It is intended to build a flow of ideas and concepts so that participants can arrive at new ideas and concepts and work them in their own way, adapting them to their objectives and research. D_Tex is intended as a space for sharing and building knowledge around textile material in order to propose new understandings and explorations. Present in all areas of knowledge, the textile material bets on renewed social readings and its evolutions to constantly reinvent itself and enable innovative cultural and aesthetic dimensions and unexpected applications to solve questions and promote new knowledge. D_Tex proposes to promote discussion and knowledge in the different areas where textiles, with all their characteristics, can ensure an important contribution, combining material and immaterial knowledge, innovative and traditional techniques, technological and innovative materials and methods, but also new organization and service models, different concepts and views on teaching. With the renewed idea of the intrinsic interdisciplinarity of design and sharing with different areas that support each other, the research and practice of textiles was proposed by the D_TEX Textile Design Conference 2019, held June 19-21, 2019 at the Lisbon School of Architecture of the University of Lisbon, Portugal under the theme "In Touch" where, as broadly understood as possible, different areas of textiles were regarded as needing to keep in touch with each other and end users in order to promote and share the best they can offer for the welfare of their users and consumers.

This thesis marks the first biography of the evolution of the bra from a designer andpatternmaker?s perspective. Although the bra has a very long history, it only becamea truly iconic garment in the latter half of the Twentieth Century. To some extent thistransformation was driven by rapid social and economic changes, but the evolutionof this highly technical garment is also inextricably linked to developments intechnology which have led to improvements in materials, design and manufacture. Initially these developments were related to designing a three-dimensional productfrom a two-dimensional flat patternmaking process, but more recently the advent ofthe moulded bra has offered opportunities to create a seamless three-dimensionalgarment without the need to construct a flat pattern, and this has enabled bothincreased design possibilities and raised the prospect of a better fitting product. Through an investigation of the origins of underwear in general, and the bra inparticular, this thesis reviews secondary source historical data to chart major changesin design, patternmaking, and technology from the first recorded uses of underwearto the current challenges facing bra designers and patternmakers in an increasinglyglobalised industry. This historical review culminates in the identification of twodistinctly diverging trends in current bra design and manufacture, both of which facesignificant challenges in terms of training new designers and producing better sizingand fitting protocols. The two primary source studies which emanate from thishistorical review contribute new knowledge to each of these diverging directions inbra design. The first study provides an entirely new approach to the teaching, and subsequentcurrent commercial practice of flat patternmaking for what many regard as the?traditional? cut-and-sewn variety of bra. This study culminates in a new way ofproducing, learning and teaching the art of flat patternmaking, enabling underweardesign graduates to leave university with the core skills they need to survive in a fastmoving global industry. The second major study investigates the salient challenge ofproviding an excellent fit for both major types of bra across globally diverse andperhaps ethnically different body types. Consequently, it employs cutting-edge threedimensionalbody scanning technology to demonstrate how the design, sizing, and2fitting of both cut-and-sewn and moulded varieties of garment might be significantlyimproved in the future. Both primary source data studies therefore stand at thebeginning of the future evolution of the most technically complex garment in humanhistory, the not so humble bra.
