Sigma-delta A/D converters are a key building block in wireless and multimedia applications. This research consisted of creating a specialized simulator for sigma delta data converter designs that was capable of simulating the operation of several different pre-determined circuit configurations. The simulator was written in Visual C++ using the MFC architecture. The simulator includes very detailed functionality with respect to actual circuit operation. Some of the features include: a configurable input signal to inject into the circuit, the ability to insert random clock jitter of various amounts to the entire circuit, a configurable quantizer that can be switched from single bit to multi bit, balanced mode to 2's complement mode, and has the ability to add random quantization step errors. This paper begins with a literature review that describes the journal articles and books used as reference during the creation of the simulator. The paper then describes specifics of the simulator design and its functionality. All aspects of the simulator's operation are addressed. The paper also includes several examples of the simulator's capabilities of evaluating the given sigma delta data converter circuits.
