The Song of the Sparrow takes us into the identification and basic care of our backyard friends and then goes beyond. Find out how to keep them happy and returning to your yard. Learn to listen to them and hear what they are telling you. Birds are God's messengers to mankind. They are in the Bible, carrying His words to us. And they are with us everyday, reminding us that just as God sees and loves the little sparrow so, too, does He see and love each one of us. The Song of the Sparrow was born out of Pamela Kern's personal experience with a special bird visitation in her backyard. Soon she heard of others who had also been so blessed. She has gathered these stories and more so you, too, can hear the birds sing!

I hope these words are still sparrow-song, more ragged at the edges, perhaps, but filled with gratitude. This new Song of the Sparrow tries to sing on like an aging bird whose voice is less insistent, less knowing, a bit intermittent, but still reaching for a full-throated song. —From the Introduction Thirty years after his groundbreaking and popular Song of the Sparrow, Murray Bodo revisits this prayer journal. With new insights and a seasoned perspective, he highlights the spiritual path for those new to it and those who, like him, are always rediscovering it. His musings, meditations and messages are a font of inspiration for those seeking new ways to pray.

Song of the Sparrow

While this book is about sharing experiences exploring the Salish Sea, these vignettes can be enjoyed anywhere by anyone who experiences nature in small and simple ways.

Song of the Sparrow offers a sense of wonder inspired by the natural world. The serendipity and enjoyment of nature through the beauty of just being present. The observations of isolated and intimate moments. Some are humorous, some sad, some downright scary. They are filled with rhythmsthe rhythm of the tides, the rhythm of the eagles wing-beat as it flies over us, the rhythm of the soft rain as it falls on our tent. While this book is about sharing experiences exploring the Salish Sea, these vignettes can be enjoyed anywhere by anyone who experiences nature in small and simple ways. Readers may have their own experiences with the natural world currently or may be removed from natural settings, but they still have a core yearning to be a part of the whole. This book will be embraced by those that enjoy intimate interactions among humans, animals, and plants. Song of the Sparrow is unique, not only because of the West Coast habitat but also because it is based on personal adventures and yet present in a universal context. It is Deborahs intention through photography and prose to offer a point of reference and insight for the unique moments that are a part of enjoying nature. While the images and narrative are specific to one place, it matters not where the reader resides. It is Deborahs hope that these snippets create a canvas for all to broaden their own experiences with nature, no matter where they occur.

In The Sparrow's Song, the final book in The Bond Woman Trilogy, Hannah Miller becomes the wife of a Methodist minister, Pastor Mark Adams. Though Mark is persistent in trying to disabuse Hannah of the notion that she is under the Bishop's curse, Hannah is haunted by her fear that the curse is real. When a song sparrow is the first bird to come to the feeder Mark has put up for her, Mark cites Scripture: "Like a fluttering sparrow, or a darting swallow, an undeserved curse does not come to rest." Nevertheless, Hannah harbors the thought that she did deserve the curse. On their honeymoon they hear the clear, bubbling song of a song sparrow, and Mark tells her it is a good omen for their life together. Though Mark says his desire for children is fulfilled by the step-children Hannah brings into their marriage-six-year-old Ida and thirteen-year-old Joey-she regrets that she cannot give him a biological child. He tells her that she and her children are enough. Hannah's longing to become a mother again is more than satisfied by a foster program that her husband starts, a program called "The Oasis." As Hannah and Mark decide to become foster parents of infants whose mothers are trying to decide whether to put them up for adoption or not, they cannot know that this decision will be take them from the mountain top of joy to the valley of despair. In The Sparrow's Song, author Janice Dembosky takes her readers into the peaks and valleys of her trademark multi-faceted plot, weaving in and out of Amish settlements and the Outside. Dembosky also re-introduces the characters readers have come to know and love-Sandra and Abram Goodman and their children, Israel and Isaac; Alexa Darling, fondly known as "the goat lady," and her family-as well as introducing them to new ones. Questions left unanswered by the first two books of The Bond Woman Trilogy are dealt with in The Sparrow's Song-the question of little Ida's paternity and the consequences of not telling the Goodman and Yoder children that they are related biologically. Readers will not be disappointed by the complexity and unpredictability of the plot of book three, The Sparrow's Song. It promises to take them on the emotional roller coaster ride they have come to expect from this author.

Believers throughout the ages have felt the glorious presence of the Creator as they lift their voices in songs of worship, contrition, and awe. It is the anticipation of that sweet union that inspired authors and musicians to pen the moving stanzas and rousing refrains of these 12 beloved hymns. Each is carefully charted for cross stitch and presented with the story behind the song's creation. The songs are We Gather Together; Have Thine Own Way Lord; Go, Tell It on the Mountain; All Things Bright and Beautiful; His Eye Is on the Sparrow; I Need Thee Every Hour; Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee; My Hope Is Built; Sing Them Over Again to Me; This Is My Father's World; Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus; and When We Walk with the Lord.
