A photo-filled account of traveling the Lincoln Highway in a century-old automobile, and contemplating a future of self-driving cars: "[An] epic road trip." —USA Today Driverless cars are on the horizon, but before the world falls asleep at the wheel, let's look back down the road from whence we have come. Ford Model T Coast to Coast documents the cross-country adventure of two brave drivers as they pilot a hundred-year-old Model T on a 3,000-mile journey from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Coast. This book is as much a contemplation of early-twentieth-century American life as it is a fond farewell to the automotive age. Can the car still be the vehicle of freedom and discovery when we're no longer in command? Or will we finally be able to fully appreciate the scenery rushing past? Accompanied by Michael Alan Ross' evocative photography, Tom Cotter stops in small towns, meets local people, and hears their stories about cars, travel, and life. The two also explore back roads adjacent to his main route, the Lincoln Highway—the first transcontinental road. Significant cross-country runs, such as those by speed-record setter Cannonball Baker and literary adventurers Jack Kerourac, John Steinbeck, and Bill Bryson, are considered in light of the driverless future. Cotter also drives some of the same roads that a young Edsel Ford traveled in his father's Model T upon high school graduation in 1917. In addition to the central road trip, Cotter visits interesting automotive and transport museums as well as "keepers of the flame" such as Model T clubs, mechanics, junkyards, and collectors across the country. He also records the numerous trials and tribulations in keeping a very old car operating on a very long journey—something the driverless car of the future is unlikely to encounter.

From the Great Pyramid of Giza and Stonehenge to the Colosseum and the Taj Mahal, man has never shied away from an extreme building challenge, and the LEGO builders of the twenty-first century are no different. Whether they’re re-creating the works of ancient masters in brick form, building life-size superheroes, breaking world records with skyscraping towers, or firmly adjusting their thinking caps to program plastic robots, some LEGO fans are taking their passion for plastic to the extreme. Sarah Herman, the author of A Million Little Bricks: The Unofficial Illustrated History of the LEGO Phenomenon, has brought together some of the world’s most ambitious builders in a fact-filled showcase of truly mind-blowing models for this exciting illustrated book. Extreme Bricks chronicles the first attempts at large-scale models embarked on by the LEGO Group as well as the early work of LEGOLAND artists and builders and contemporary LEGO Certified Professionals who build big for a living. It charts the rise of AFOLS (adult fans of LEGO) and their increasingly spectacular models and gargantuan collections. Packed with two hundred color photographs to shock and surprise, the book also explores the popular building competitions and includes a closer look at the shockingly smart LEGO MINDSTORMS robots that can do everything from solving a Rubik’s Cube to building their own LEGO models.

Odysseys in flight, Inc., is a non, profit organization which IS, dedicated to bringing the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid to New York and turning her into the world's first international Aerospace and Naval Memorial Museum. I was Eleven when WWII began for America when the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, December 7, 1941. I kept a large map of the War's progress in Europe and Pacific. Small flags represented the Allies and Axis movements on the map. Reports came from the Journal-American & Daily Mirror newspapers. In 1957 I became an Air Traffic Controller at New York Air Route Traffic Control Center located at Idiewild Airport (today, JFK). 1963 the Center relocated to MacArthur Airport 1974 the Center celebrated its 10th Anniversary. I had the opportunity of displaying my 200-models depicting the History of Aviation. After the celebration, I conceptualized the idea placing an Aeronautical & Naval Museum on a decommissioned WWII US Navy aircraft carrier. I am the original founder of USS INTREPID Sea, Air & Space Museum. Retired 1999 from FAA. I built dioramas for the Cradle of Aviation & American Airpower Museums. I enjoy schools getting an education visiting the museums.
